Library Cards
To obtain a library card you must be at least six years-old and a resident of Greene County, Tennessee.

In order to get your first free library card we must have proof of your current Greene County Address.  A current driver’s license will suffice.  If the license does not reflect your current address, a piece of mail or a bill you have received will verify your address.  Once you have filled out the application  the card will be mailed to you within 3 to 5 working days.   Young people who do not have a license must have their application signed by a parent or guardian.

A $10.00 replacement fee is required for lost cards.  Free replacement cards are issued if the barcode of the old card is brought in at the time of replacement.

Computer Access
The library has seventeen computers that are available for public use.  All are connected to the Internet via T-1 connection.  Most have software programs to write and print documents.  Children are welcome to play games and surf the net if accompanied by a legal guardian.  The computers are available except for specific times when classes are being taught.  Patrons must show some form of identification before using the computers. Patrons may call to see if a computer is available before coming in.

The mission of the Greeneville-Greene County Library Public Library is to provide for the informational, recreational and educational needs of local residents through comprehensive collections of books and other media, innovative programming, and prompt and courteous service to all patrons.  The library recognizes the Internet as an important new source of information, and will support direct patron access, subject to the following guidelines:

  • Internet access is available to anyone with a valid library card or picture identification.

  • Patrons may sign up for 30 minutes (if no one is waiting time can be longer), with a maximum of two sessions per day.

  • Downloading of information to a diskette is not permitted except on certain computers.

  • Access to chatrooms, newsgroups, or other interactive services is not permitted.

  • Access to sites inappropriate for public viewing is prohibited

  • Children under 15 must be supervised by a parent or guardian when accessing the Internet.   Adults unaccompanied by children must use workstations in the adult room.

The Internet is an unregulated medium that is constantly changing.  The library has no control over the quality and the accuracy of information available on the Internet.  While it offers access to material that can be enriching to people of all ages, it gives access to some material that may be offensive, disturbing, inaccurate or out of date.  Users are encouraged to take advantage of the Internet, and to exercise good judgment and discretion in their use of it.
