As a courtesy to our
patrons who live outside Greene County, we offer basic research and copy
services. We are unable to accept queries requiring exhaustive research,
but we are pleased to honor specific, targeted requests for
information.
As of August 14, 2006,
our prices and policies are as follows:
$5.00 base rate,
to which is added
$0.50 per photocopy
exposure for original documents
(marriage licenses/bonds, wills and other probate records, deeds, death
certificates, obituaries, newspaper articles, census records, etc.)
$0.25 per photocopy
exposure for all other types of material
(family sheets, cemetery listings, published transcriptions of court
records and census records, excerpts from books, etc.)
For look-ups of
specific types of material (for example, marriage records, wills,
tombstone records, death certificates, census records), requests should
be limited to no more than five items. Dates or other
information to enable an efficient search should be provided.
For open-ended
requests (for instance, a search for the parents of an ancestor), no
more than one item should be submitted.
We assess the $5.00
fee regardless of whether our search is successful.
Most of the materials
on file at the Cox Library are indexed and readily searchable. Because
of this, we can usually handle focused look-up requests in no more than
an hour, which represents the maximum time that we are generally able to
spend per request. If it appears that additional time is needed, we
contact patrons to approve an additional $5.00 per hour charge.
Our practice is to
perform the search and then notify the patron of the amount owed. Once
we receive payment, we mail the photocopies we have made. We can accept
checks or money orders but not credit card payments.
Notary service:
For a fee of $1.00 per page, any document we provide can be notarized.
